The protection function of battery separator in battery operation

The function of the battery separator is to prevent the positive and negative plates from contacting each other and cause short circuit, and ensure the normal chemical reaction of the plates. Therefore, the battery special PE separator should have a higher porosity, to ensure that the ion conduction of electric energy, but also should have less impurities, good acid resistance, higher mechanical strength conditions. The special separator of rubber battery can also prevent the antimony ions dissolved from the alloy of the positive plate grid frame from migrating to the surface of the negative plate, thus reducing the self-discharge of the battery. Battery slots are made of materials such as hard rubber or plastic with good acid resistance, good insulation and high mechanical strength. They are containers containing plates, partitions and electrolytic liquids. The volume size determines the capacity of batteries under certain conditions. The role of dilute sulfuric acid electrolyte is in the conversion process of electric energy and chemical energy, namely charge and discharge, through electrochemical reaction between ions conductive effect, and participate in the chemical reaction of the battery.


With the continuous innovation of battery technology and the maturity of PE separator molding technology, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene separator has become the mainstream separator. PE partition was first developed and invented by Grace Company in the United States. Because PE partition has the advantages of low resistance, good toughness, not easy to wear, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, small aperture, encapsulation and so on, it has been widely used in the world and has become a substitute for other traditional partitions. At present in Europe, America and Australia, almost the automobile battery production using PE partition. There is no doubt that the use of PE separator will have a strong promoting effect on the production of battery worldwide.


Since the early 1990s, PE separator has been used in China for more than ten years. At present, PE separator has been recognized by most battery manufacturers in China and has been widely used. Some of the starting batteries produced by large factories in China have all or part adopted PE separator. However, in the production of PE separator, due to the difficulties in the production and processing of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and the core production technology has been in the hands of European and American big factories, so the domestic has been in a blank state. Until 1996, with the successful introduction of PE partition production technology in China, the mysterious veil was unveiled, and the domestic production of PE partition was zero.


The function of PE partition is to separate the positive and negative plates that rely on each other to prevent short circuit contact with each other. The baffle material should have good acid resistance and oxidation resistance. Commonly used separators are wood separators, microporous rubber separators, microporous plastic fiberglass and cardboard, etc. When the partition board is installed with a groove, the groove surface should be facing the positive plate and perpendicular to the bottom, so as to facilitate the flow of electrolyte, the sinking of shedding active substances and the escape of bubbles.
